7/2/2008 Our efforts to purchase the Lewis petroleum site on 5th Street finally collapsed around liability and clean up issues. As environmentally conscious as we want to be, it seemed irresponsible to assume the full costs of clean up for all past, present and future hazards posed by the site. Those costs would necessarily be passed on to future cohousing residents. While the actual contamination might not be great, it represented a huge risk to our efforts. We are really disappointed.

Salida, however, continues to be a great town for future cohousing efforts. Every day we meet more people interested in taking charge of their lives, interested in "aging in place", conserving resources, and living in an environment rich with friends.

There WILL be a "first" organizational meeting in late summer. We'll let you know.
